The Pill
There are two types – the combined pill and the progestogen only pill. The pill contains hormones and mainly works to stop the ovaries from releasing an egg each month. It is 99% effective if used properly.
There are lots of different pills to choose from and a doctor or nurse can help you decide which one is right for you.
You should take the pill at the same time every day to work properly, set your mobile to remind you!
It may not work if you have vomiting or diarrhoea.
The pill stops you getting pregnant and can make periods lighter and less painful, but it won't protect you from picking up an STI
